The main eye candy for tourists visiting Udawalave national park are the Sri Lanka elephants that roam around through the bushes in large numbers. Besides the elephants, other wildlife attractions for travellers are wild buffalo, mongooses, bandicoots, water monitor lizards, and crocodiles. Udawalave also has tons of migrating birds visiting the wildlife sanctuary between November and April. Tourists can either take a tour organized by the hotels or take one of the open 4 wheel drives that starts from the gate of the park. Best time to see elephants in herds is between 6 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM.
