There are numerous churches in Batticaloa that have some interesting architecture and design. The churches worth a visit by tourists are St Sebastian’s Church, St Anthony’s Church, Our Lady of Sorrows and St Mary’s Cathedral.
There are numerous mosques in Batticaloa with Auliya mosque being the finest one with green minarets.
Anipandi Sitivigniswara Alayar is a beautiful Hindu temple with a magnificent gopuram and fine decorations.
St. Mary’s Cathedral is a beautiful and grand church located in the heart of Batticaloa city.
Tiruchendur Murugan Alayam Temple in Batticaloa is a temple that was constructed as a stopping point for travelers moving on foot pilgrimage to Kataragama. Majority of temple’s structure was destroyed due to the tsunami that struck Sri Lanka.
Dutch fort of Batticaloa doesn’t have much of tourist attractions, as it houses majority of government offices. There are multiple numbers of old canon located inside the fort.
