Mirissa is popular among tourists for its beautiful sandy beach with relaxed and picturesque environment. Mirissa is a secluded bay lying abut 5 kms from Weilgama. Travellers love this small fishing village with its wide stretch of golden beach lined with palm trees. Like other beaches on the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, Mirissa is good for body boarding and surfing. There are also options of snorkelling here, however, the infrastructure is not as developed as other southern beaches.
Located at the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka, this panoramic bay is a perfect retreat for tourists where they can feel relaxed and rested forgetting all their worries. Mirissa beach is safe for swimming with calm and clear waters. There are restaurants and bars located on the back side of the beach, where travellers relax drinking chilled beer. Apart from relaxing at the beach, visitors can also visit the Fishermen village and the Buddhist temple. There are other major beaches like Galle, Weligama etc. nearby Mirissa, where tourists can go on a day trip.
Travelers can either take a direct bus ride to Mirissa from major cities of Colombo, or take a train to Weligama and then tuk-tuk to Mirissa.
