Kalkudah and Passekudah are two curvy beaches located near Batticaloa on the eastern coastline of Sri Lanka. Kalkudah is the bigger of the two beaches, whichi is very beautiful curved beach lined with palm trees and dotted with fishing boats. Passekudah is gaining popularity among travellers for its shallow coast line, which is among the top shallow beaches in the world. The beaches of Kalkudah and Passekudah are also adorned by coral reefs that make them perfect and safe for bathing and wind surfing. These two beaches are more popular among budget travellers due to availability of budget hotels and resorts.
Kalkudah and Passekudah have faced lot of destruction during the Sri Lanka civil war. These two beaches are slowly gaining popularity among tourists post the civil war and Tsunami destruction. Sri Lanka government is taking many initiatives to develop these two towns as attractive tourist destinations, post the end of civil war. Both public and private players are investing in the region due to its high potential.
