Dambadeniya, located about 30km south-west of Kurunegala, is a famous Buddhist tourism site. There is a double storeyed temple of Buddha in Dambadeniya that has some Buddha images. Another tourist attraction in Dambadeniya, is the six ponds of 13th century that were part of the palace buildings which has only few remains left. Dambadeniya was royal capital during 13th century, where the remains of royal palace, temple of tooth relic, gardens and ponds have been excavated. Dambadeniya reached the zenith of its glory during the reign of king Parakramabahu (1236-70).
